1. What is the phone number for non-emergency police matters?

407-703-1757. This will connect you to the Apopka Police Department Communications Center where you will be able to speak with a dispatcher who will assist you on a phone line other than 9-1-1.

2. Where is the Apopka Police Department located?

We are located at 112 East Sixth Street, Apopka, Florida 32703. We are a two story brick building at the southeast corner of the intersection of Park Avenue and Sixth Street. Our main entrance is located on Sixth Street.

3. Can I give anonymous information about a crime or suspected crimes I am aware of?

Yes! The Apopka Police Department is partners with CrimeLine. CrimeLine is 100% confidential. Your information will be taken in strictest confidence. Your identity will be protected and you will never have to give your name. You will be given a confidential tip code number. Your confidential tip code number should be kept private and NOT shared with anyone. 4. Does the Apopka Police Department do fingerprinting?

Yes, we do fingerprinting Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 11 AM and 2 PM to 4 PM. City Residents are charged $22.50 and Non-City Residents are charged $30. We only accept cash, credit and debit. No children are permitted to be in the fingerprinting room and no children are allowed to be unattended in the waiting room. We only electronically transmit fingerprints for concealed weapons permits and for name changes. You must bring with you the following: 1) A valid photo government ID card with your current address; 2) Your own BLANK fingerprint card

5. How can I keep someone from coming back on my property who does not belong there?

You can request that an officer respond to your property and issue a trespass warning to the person. If the person returns to your property after the warning has been issued, he or she can be arrested. To request an officer for the purpose of issuing a trespass warning, please call our non-emergency line at (407) 703-1757.

6. How do I report suspicious activity in my neighborhood?

The Apopka Police Department depends on citizens calling to report crimes or suspicious activity. If it is an emergency, dial 911. For non-emergencies, call (407) 703-1757. The dispatcher who takes your call will ask questions about the activity to determine it's nature and ask for descriptions of the people involved. You might be asked if an officer or detective may contact you.

7. Who is required to wear a bicycle helmet?

Florida law requires that a bicycle rider or passenger under the age of 16 must wear a helmet that meets the nationally recognized standards for bicycle helmets. It is also unlawful to rent a bicycle to a person under the age of 16 unless the person has an approved helmet or one is provided with the bicycle. Violations of the law relating to bicycle helmets subject the violator to issuance of a traffic citation which may effect when they can be issued a drivers license. The Center for Disease Control and National Bicycle Safety Network maintain a very informative website.

8. Can I report drunk drivers to 911 on my cell phone?

Yes. Calls to 911 on a cell phone are free, but unlike regular phones, we can't tell where you are calling from. Be prepared to give your location, direction of travel and a description of the car. Your safety is of utmost importance to us. Do not pursue the drunk driver or in any way place yourself in danger.

9. My friend or relative is late returning home. How can I find out if they were in an accident?

The Apopka Police Department's dispatch center does not have the names of people involved in accidents available. However, if a person has been injured in an accident and is unable to call for themselves, we will notify their family.

10. Will the Apopka Police Department tow an abandoned car?

The police department can only have vehicles towed that are on public property. Call a wrecker service in your area and the vehicle will be towed away at no expense to you. The wrecker service will notify the owners once they have determined ownership.

11. What can I do about speeders in my neighborhood?

Call our Traffic Enforcement Division at (407) 703-1771 and request that this area be placed on selective enforcement.

12. Can an officer open my car if I lock my keys inside?

Because of the potential for damage to vehicles, the Apopka Police Department does not open locked vehicles. A locksmith is your best alternative. However, if a child has locked himself in a vehicle this is a true emergency due to the severe heat possible in Florida. The Police Department and/or Fire Department will respond and open the vehicle any way possible, even by breaking out the window if necessary.

13. How can I evict someone from my property?

Eviction is a legal process that often times requires a court order. Fore more information, contact the Orange County Sheriff's Office's Civil Process Section at (407) 836-4570.

14. I have left my spouse/significant other, but need to get my personal belongings. Can the Apopka Police Department help?

The Apopka Police Department will send an officer to keep the peace and prevent violence while you retrieve your belongings. When you are near the location, call (407) 703-1757 to request an officer to be en route. The officer will then standby while you retrieve some property.
*An officer will NOT be available to standby for an extended period of time due to needs of other citizens.

15. What can I do about stray animals?

Orange County Animal Services is the county agency responsible for calls involving dogs, cats, and other nuisance animals. They can be reached at (407) 836-3111 or the Animal Services website.

16. How do I find information about an inmate in jail?

You can find information about inmates at the Orange County Correction's Department website www.bestjail.com.

17. How do I get a copy of a police report?

The Records Division is open from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Request for Incident Report(s) are accepted in person, via mail, phone request and email. Requests that are handled by mail must include a self-addressed stamped envelope. You may email your request to the Records Supervisor, Dina Cedillo at dcedillo@apopka.net. 18. How do I make a police report?

The Apopka Police Department will respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week to requests for assistance. If you want to request an officer to come to your location, please call (407) 703-1757 which goes to our communications center. If you want to make a report at our police department after normal business hours, there is a phone located next to the entrance which rings directly to our communications center. After speaking with a dispatcher on the phone, they will send an officer to speak with you.

19. What should I do if I think there is a warrant out for my arrest?

You should contact your local law enforcement agency and ask to be contacted by law enforcement personnel.

20. What is a public record?

All government documents are subject for inspection and copying, but there are those cases that these documents may be exempt from inspection and/or copying. Please refer to the Florida State Statutes, Chapter 119 for more information.

21. When will my report be ready?

Reports are usually available for release 5-7 business days, after reporting the incident. Occasionally, the report may take longer depending upon the report review process.

22. Why can't I get a copy of a juvenile's records?

Juvenile records are released in accordance to Florida State Statutes, Chapter 119.

23. Why is some of the information "blacked out" on my report?

Due to Florida State Statutes, Chapter 119, some information is not public record, as with the victim information in cases such as child abuse, elderly abuse, sexual battery, etc.

24. How do I find out where my vehicle has been towed?

You should contact the Apopka Police Department Communications Center at (407) 703-1757.

25. How do I find out about getting my property returned?

You should contact the Apopka Police Department's Property / Evidence Section at (407) 703-1771.

26. How can I locate information about crimes in a certain area?

You can contact our Crime Analyst, Holly Roell, at (407) 703-1623.

27. Why do I need to show identification to obtain a copy of an accident report?

Motor vehicle crash information is confidential and exempt from Florida State Statutes, Chapter 119.07(1) and s.24(a), Article I of the State Constitution for a period of 60 days after the date the crash report is filed. However, such reports may be made immediately available to the parties involved in the crash, their legal representatives, and their licensed insurance agents.

After the 60 days, identification will not be required.

28. How do I check someone's background?

Local criminal history checks are available from the Records Section for a fee of $10 per name. You may come to the police department or send a self-addressed stamped envelope and $10, along with the request to: Apopka Police Department Records Division 112 East Sixth Street Apopka, Florida 32703 Office hours are Monday-Friday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm.

29. When should I use 911?

911 should be used in emergency situations only, where immediate police, fire, or medical assistance is needed. Examples of this are crimes in progress, crashes with injuries or life threatening situations. All other calls for service should be done by using the non-emergency number (407) 703-1757.

30. An officer issued me a traffic citation (ticket); how can I protest it?

If you received a traffic ticket that you feel was unjustified or because of circumstances beyond your control, you may contest your traffic ticket in court. You are welcome to call the Orange County Court House at (407) 836-2007, or you may stop by the Clerk of the Court, which is located at 1111 N. Rock Springs Road, Apopka, Florida, in the North Orange Services Building.

The Orange County Clerk of Courts is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 am until 4:00 pm with the exception of opening at 7:30 am on Thursdays.

31. What are the audio recording fees?

This rate is chargeable in fifteen minute time increments beginning after the first fifteen minutes processing the request (free). For all record questions and digital video inquiries please contact the Records Custodian at 407-703-1777.

Note: Extensive Research Fee is defined as a special service charge when the nature or volume of public records to be inspected is such as to require extensive use of information technology resources, or extensive clerical assistance or supervisory assistance or both.

32. How do I obtain a criminal history background check?

There are several ways to obtain a background check; you can come to the Apopka Police Department Office at 112 E. Sixth Street, Apopka, Florida 32703. The Records section hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (except for recognized national holidays). In order to obtain a  background check, you must provide the full name and date of birth of the subject. 

Please Note: The Apopka Police Department Office will only provide a local criminal history background check for Apopka City limits. If you need a statewide or nationwide search you must contact the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. If you have additional questions, you may call the Records Section at 407-703-1777.

33. Can I file a report over the telephone or does an officer have to come to my house?

No, our agency does not complete a report by telephone. You can call the non-emergency number 407-703-1757 and request an officer respond to a location within the city limits or come to the Apopka Police Department located at 112 E. Sixth Street, Apopka, Florida 32703.

34. Can a police report be filed any time of the day? Do I need to make an appointment?

The Apopka Police Department will respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week to requests for police assistance. If you would like to come into the police department to file a report, the lobby is open from 8 AM until 5 PM Monday through Friday.

35. Does the police department offer fingerprinting? If so, when can I have my fingerprints done?

The Apopka Police Department offers fingerprinting Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 11 AM and 2 PM to 4 PM. There is a $22.50 fee for City of Apopka residents and a $30 fee if you are not a resident of City of Apopka. Must have a valid picture ID or passport.
