1. What can I do with bulky items too large for regular household trash pickup?

Large items such as furniture may be placed curbside for pick up on your first regularly scheduled yard waste collection day. Appliances, electronics and TV's need to be scheduled for pickup on any Wednesday. For safety reasons you are required to remove the doors from refrigerators and freezers before you put them curbside. See our Residential Rates section for specific charges.

2. Will my garbage and recycling be picked up on Holidays?

Garbage and recycling will be picked up on all holidays except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Your garbage and/or recycling will be picked up on your next regularly scheduled pickup day.

3. Will you take old paint cans with my trash?

If the cans are empty and the leftover paint is dry, you may put them in with your garbage. Paint and other hazardous materials can be taken to specific sites in Orange County that are equipped to handle them. For locations and phone numbers, please refer to the section on

4. How can I get rid of old oil from my car?

Automobile oil is a hazardous material. In addition to the Orange County sites listed in the Household Hazardous Waste section, there are some auto supply stores that will accept used automobile oil. For more information, please see the Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) section.

5. How do I calculate the size of a pile in cubic yards?

Multiply the Width x Height x Length and then divide the total by 27 = number of cubic yards

For example: 4 feet wide x 4 feet high x 6.75 feet (6 feet 9 inches) long divided by 27 = 4 cubic yards
